Protestan eğitimci yazar Jan Amos Comenius 1656 Ağustos'unda Amsterdam'a gelir ve resimdeki Keizersgracht kanalına bakan bir evde (No 123, orada şimdi 'kafa müzesi' var) kalır. Kent yönetimince desteklenir. Din, bilim, sanat gibi bütün bilgilerin tek bir bilgi sisteminde (pansophia, ansiklopedi) toplanmasını önerdi. Politik savaşları anlamsız bulur: Tanrı arılarda monarşiyi, karıncalarda demokrasiyi uygun görmüş. Savaşları sona erdirmenin yolunun aynı tanrıya inandıklarından Yahudi ve Müslümanların Hristiyanlığa dönmesi ile sağlanacağına inandı. İslamı inceledi, İstanbul'daki elçilik yolu ile İncil'i Türkçe'ye çevirtti (1659). Bu ilk Türkçe İncil halen Leiden Üniversitesi kitaplığında.
The Protestant educator and writer Jan Jan Amos Comenius arrived in Amsterdam in August 1656 and stayed in a house overlooking the Keizersgracht canal (No. 123, where there is now 'Head Museum'). He was supported by the city administration. He proposed that all information (religion, science, art) be collected in a single information system (pansophia, encyclopedia). He found political wars meaningless: God decreed monarchy to the bees and democracy to the ants. He believed that the way to end the wars would be achieved by the conversion of Jews and Muslims into Christianity because they believed in the same god. He studied Islam and got translated the Bible into Turkish through the Netherlands Embassy in Istanbul (1659). This first Turkish Bible is still in the Leiden University library.
