Kudüs'teki mabed içinde saklandığına inanılan içinde on emir bulunan kutsal sandığı sembolize ediyor. İçinde her sinagog'un Tevrat metinleri (Şifre-i Tevrat) yer alıyor. Genellikle sinagogun Kudüs yönünde ve ibadet oraya doğru yapılıyor. Aşkenaz (Doğu Avrupa) Yahudileri ön kısmına buradaki gibi süslü bir perde (parocheth) örtüyorlar. Üstte ebedi ışık ve on emiri tutan Yehuda aslanları.
Old Synagogue in Odessa (Chabad, beginning of 20th century) bimah and holy (Torah) ark in the back. It symbolizes the holy ark at the temple in Jerusalem, it is believed that it holds the ten commandments. It contains the Torah scrolls (Sifrei Torah) of each synagogue. Usually, it is on the direction of Jerusalem of the synagogue and the focal point of prayer. Ashkenazi (Eastern Europe) Jews cover the front part with an ornate curtain (parocheth). At above, the eternal light, and the lions of the Judah holding ten commandments.
