Odessa’da, 'Pasaj' binasının cephesinde 1858'de burada oturan ünlü cerrah Nikolay İvanoviç Pirogov'un anısına plaket. Pirogov (1810-81). Aile doktorunun desteği ile 14 yaşında tıp okumaya başladı. Eteri anestezide kullandı. Kolerayı tanımladı. Kırım savaşında alçılamayı uyguladı, kendi adı ile bilinen ampütasyonu tanımladı. Hemşirelik kurumunu oluşturdu. Cerrahiyi temellendirdi: 'anatomi ve fizyoloji bilinmez ise cerrahi sanat olur'. 1856-58'de Odessa Bölge sorumlusu olarak pedagoji alanında çalıştı: 'çocukların ne öğrendikleri değil nasıl öğrendikleri önemli'. Sonra zorla emekli edildi.
In Odessa, a plaque in memory of the famous surgeon Nikolay Ivanovich Pirogov, who lived here in 1858, on the facade the building of the 'Passage'. Pirogov (1810-81), with the support of the family doctor, began to medicine education at 14 years old. He used ether in anesthesia, and described cholera.
