Metz & Co is a luxury brand founded in 1740. Takes the title 'The Purveyor to the Royal Household'. In 1890, it moved to this building on the corner of Keizersgracht. In the 1930s it turned to modern functional furniture. Gerrit Rietveld and Alvar Aalto were two of their designers. In 1933, Rietveld added a glass dome to the roof with the brand name on it. In 1973 the roof cafe was opened: M | Café. Metz & Co closed in 2013. Rietveld was from the de stijl movement stream: Sitting is a verb. If you are tired just lie down.
